Q&A Guide

Wage & Compensation FAQs

Suite-wide answers on coverage, privacy, statutory standards, and where to start.

What calculators are included in the Salary Rate Calculator suite?

The suite currently includes five specialized tools: the Hourly to Salary Converter (bidirectional 2,080-hour engine), the Pay Raise Calculator (merit and COLA adjustments), the Overtime Pay Calculator (FLSA 1.5x and California double-time), the Federal Pay Raise 2026 Calculator (GS grades with 54 OPM locality tables), and the Military Pay Raise 2026 Calculator (Enlisted, Warrant, and Officer basic pay plus drill pay). Three additional tools — 1099 vs W-2, bonus withholding, and 401(k) impact — are on the public roadmap below.

Are these wage calculations private? Is my salary data stored anywhere?

Yes. Every calculator on this platform executes 100% client-side in your browser with zero server storage, zero account requirements, and zero telemetry on the figures you enter. The only value persisted in your browser is your visual theme preference (theme in localStorage). See our Privacy Policy for the full charter.

Which statutory standards do the calculations follow?

Private-sector conversions use the 2,080-hour workyear standard (40 hours × 52 weeks) recognized by the US Department of Labor and the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Federal civilian figures use the statutory 2,087-hour divisor under 5 U.S.C. § 5504. Overtime logic follows the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) 1.5x rule plus California Labor Code § 510 daily and 7th-day double-time provisions, and 2026 government tables track official OPM and NDAA schedules.

Do these calculators show gross or net take-home pay?

All outputs represent gross pre-tax compensation. Net take-home pay depends on federal and state income-tax withholding (Form W-4), FICA contributions (6.2% Social Security up to the annual wage cap plus 1.45% Medicare), and voluntary pre-tax deductions such as 401(k), HSA/FSA, and health premiums — typically reducing gross pay by 18% to 32%. These figures are educational estimates, not tax or legal advice.

Which calculator should I start with?

Start with the Hourly to Salary Converter if you are comparing a job offer or converting pay frequencies — it is the foundation of the suite. Use Pay Raise before annual reviews, Overtime when working extra hours, and the Federal or Military tools for 2026 statutory pay tables.
